Runmageddon Ełk 2026: an obstacle race in the middle of a Masurian charter

Runmageddon comes back to Ełk on 18-19 July 2026. You can't sail there by yacht, since Lake Ełckie is cut off from the main route, but it's a quick car hop from Giżycko. We show you how to weave a mud run into a week on the water.

Runmageddon Ełk 2026: what, where and when

Runmageddon comes back to Ełk on 18-19 July 2026, starting from the New City Beach on Lake Ełckie. It's a mass obstacle race, OCR for short. You run, you crawl, you climb over walls, you wade through mud and water. For some it's a sport, for others just a good laugh with the crew. There are a few formats, from ones for kids to ones for tough guys, so everyone will find something for themselves.

We do yacht charters and give tips on how to weave a race like this into a holiday on the water. More on that in a moment.

What Runmageddon is and who it's for

Runmageddon is the most recognizable obstacle race series in Poland. The course runs through natural terrain plus obstacles: walls, ropes, footbridges, carrying heavy loads, and of course the classic, a bath in the mud. You don't have to be a pro. The point is to give as much as you can and cross the finish line smiling (and covered in mud).

Whole families take part, work teams, groups of friends. There are calmer formats to warm up and ones where you'll really have to grind. There are also separate races for kids. That's why this event fits so well into a summer plan: some go for the longer distance, the younger ones do their own, and in the evening everyone sits together at one table.

Formats in a nutshell

We give the format names as a rough guide. Check the exact distances and number of obstacles on the organizer's website, because they can differ between editions and we don't want to feed you made-up kilometers.

FormatWho it's for
IntroGetting into it. The shortest distance, for beginners and those who want to see what it's all about without wrecking themselves.
RekrutThe series classic. Longer, more obstacles, a solid dose of effort. For those who like to feel they've actually done something.
KidsA separate race for children. Obstacles adjusted to their height and ability, loads of fun, zero forced competition.
FamilyFamily-style, together from start to finish. A parent and child take on the course together, at their own pace.

Ełk and a charter on the Great Lakes: how to combine the two

Here we have to be honest with you, because it matters for planning. You can't sail from Giżycko to Ełk by yacht. Lake Ełckie lies outside the main Great Masurian Lakes route and has no water connection to it. There's no canal, no lock you could take a boat through. It's a separate body of water. Anyone promising otherwise is at odds with geography.

But don't worry, that doesn't rule Runmageddon out of your holiday on the water at all. Quite the opposite. Our base is Port Royal in Giżycko, on Lake Kisajno. Ełk isn't far from Giżycko by car, it's a hop of about an hour's drive. So the scenario is simple: a morning trip by car to the race, getting muddy to the limits of decency, and in the afternoon back on board and a swim in clean Masurian water to wash off all that Ełk terrain.

A week on a charter doesn't mean you have to be sailing the whole time. You can stop in port for a day, leave the yacht at its moorings and take a trip on land. Runmageddon is the perfect excuse to break the sailing rhythm with something completely different. Adrenaline on the course in the morning, quiet on the water and a grill on deck in the evening. If you're planning a route around Giżycko, take a look at our guide to Giżycko, its ports and attractions. You'll find where to moor and what to do near the base.

Practical tips so the logistics don't wear you out

A few things from experience that make a trip like this easier:

  • Sign up online in advance. Spots fill up, and on race day the beach can get crowded. Buy your package early through the organizer's website.
  • Bring a change of clothes. After the race you're wet and muddy from head to toe. Dry things to change into are a must, especially if you're heading back to the yacht afterwards.
  • A bag for the muddy stuff. A regular trash bag or a sealed waterproof one. You don't want mud-caked shoes loose in the trunk or in the berth.
  • Flip-flops or an old towel. The showers on site can be mobbed, so sometimes it's simpler to rinse off roughly and clean up properly once you're back at the lake.
  • Plan the return to the water. If you've got the yacht in port, agree with the crew on who gets back when, so the evening grill goes off as planned.

Where to sign up

Sign-ups and race packages are on the organizer's official website. You'll sort everything out here: runmageddon.pl. That's also where you'll find the current distances, wave start times and the rules.
