Short answer: how many metres for how many people
A couple or a foursome fits on a 6 to 8 m sailboat (Phobos 21, Sasanka Viva 600, Antila 24.4, Twister 26). Six people fit on a 7.8 to 8.3 m sailboat (Tango 780, Antila 27, Baltica 27) or a 6-person houseboat (Nautika 830, Escapade 600 Camper). No licence required: a houseboat, or a sailboat up to 7.5 m hull length if the owner rents it that way.
Small yachts are scarce on NaCzarter (as of autumn 2026): there are only a handful of sailboats for 2 to 4 people and for 5 to 6. The vast majority of sailboats take 7 to 10 people, and most houseboats 7 to 8. That is why a foursome often takes an "eight": with houseboats included it is the largest class, and the spare cabin takes the luggage. Larger groups: see yachts for 8 and 10 people.
For two: a compact 6 to 7 m sailboat
A couple needs neither three cabins, nor a shower, nor an inboard engine. It needs a dry berth, a toilet, a stove and a cockpit where two can stretch out. That is the Phobos 21 (6.18 m hull, one cabin, 4 berths) or the Sasanka Viva 600 (6.20 m, 4 berths). The second pair of berths holds the bags; the usual 6 hp outboard is enough for harbours and canals. Missing at 6 metres: a shower (roughly every second listed boat has one) and full cabin headroom. Almost all boats have a toilet, and about three quarters have heating: a September cruise for two need not be cold.
Cost: off peak, a sailboat starts at 200 PLN per day and 1400 PLN per week. In July and August a week on a sailboat costs 1400 to 8750 PLN (median 3850 PLN). The refundable deposit, settled on site, is a median 1500 PLN for sailboats. More on how much it costs to rent a sailboat. Data: owners' price lists on NaCzarter, 2026 season. Comparative figures, not an offer for 2027.
For four: 2+2 with children or two couples
A 2+2 family wants an enclosed forward cabin for the children, a toilet and a deep cockpit. Almost every boat carries life jackets, but confirm children's sizes with the owner. Among sailboats, the Antila 24.4 (7.30 m) and Twister 26 (7.80 m) work well, both with a separate forward cabin. The Sasanka 660 Supernova (6.60 m) is cheaper, but its 6 berths share one cabin: no door between children and parents. The Twister is one of the most common models listed, rated for 8 people, so four have room to spare. The berth layout is in the Twister 26 guide.
Two couples are a different matter: count doors, not berths. Two enclosed cabins come with the Antila 27 (8.24 m) and the Baltica 27 (built 2024, 6 berths). A family without a licence usually ends up on the Stillo 30 houseboat (9.10 m, 8 people, 3 cabins), one of the most common houseboats listed. More than needed, but only a handful of houseboats are listed for 2 to 4 people.
For six: berths are not cabins
Six berths in one cabin and six in two cabins are two different cruises. The first is the Tango 780 (7.80 m, 6 berths, one cabin, older model years) and the Sasanka 660 Supernova. Cheap, close to the water, no privacy: good for friends in sleeping bags. The second is the Antila 27 or Baltica 27 with two cabins; the third pair sleeps in the saloon. Both have one toilet. The Antila 28.2 (8.28 m) is the next step, but it is already rated for 10.
A 6-person houseboat solves the licence problem. The Nautika 830 (8.30 m, 2 cabins, 6 berths) and the Escapade 600 Camper (5.98 m) are each listed in several units. The Escapade is rated for 6 people but has 4 berths, a squeeze for six. Houseboats for 5 to 6 people are far fewer than those for 7 to 8: book popular dates in winter.
No licence required: a houseboat or a sailboat up to 7.5 m
The Polish regulation of 9 April 2013 (rozporządzenie, Dz.U. 2013 poz. 460) exempts sailboats up to 7.5 m hull length and motor boats up to 10 kW from the licence. Houseboats fall under the Polish inland navigation act (ustawa o żegludze śródlądowej, art. 37a ust. 4), which allows a motor yacht up to 75 kW and 13 m hull length, limited by design to 15 km/h, with no qualifications. In the listings, almost all houseboats rent without a licence.
Sailboats come with a catch. The Phobos 21, Sasanka Viva 600, Sasanka 660 Supernova, Antila 24 and Antila 24.4 fit within the 7.5 m limit. But the owner, not the law, sets the requirement: few listed sailboats are marked "no licence required". See the list of licence-free yachts in Masuria. The third way is a skipper: most listed boats offer one, usually for 400 PLN per day paid to the owner, at some up to 800 PLN. Before taking a yacht for a week, try a private skippered cruise from Giżycko.

Hull lengths per the manufacturers; cabins and berths per the yacht listings on NaCzarter, as of autumn 2026. For the Antila 24.4, Twister 26 and Antila 27 I give the listing's rated capacity; check the berth layout on the yacht's page. "Per listing": the yacht fits the 7.5 m limit, but most owners still require a licence.
What to watch out for
- The number of people in a listing is a maximum, not a recommendation: the Escapade 600 Camper is rated for 6 and has 4 berths, the Antila 27 is rated for 10 and has two cabins. Count berths and doors.
- Forward berths narrow towards the bow: two children sleep there comfortably, two adults less so.
- Luggage: soft bags, not suitcases. On a 6-metre sailboat the lockers are under the berths.
- Four on a yacht for 10 pay for empty berths and a higher deposit, and work harder mooring in a windy harbour.
- In peak season charters run Saturday to Saturday; short dates for a couple are easier to find in May, June and September.

Frequently asked questions
Which yacht in Masuria for 4 people with children? A 7.3 to 7.8 m sailboat with a forward cabin and a toilet: Antila 24.4 or Twister 26. Cheaper, but in one cabin: Sasanka 660 Supernova. Without a licence, a houseboat, in practice the Stillo 30 with three cabins.
Can a couple sail a 6 m boat without a licence? The law allows up to 7.5 m hull length, but the owner sets the requirement, and few listed sailboats are marked "no licence required". A houseboat or a skippered charter, usually 400 PLN per day, is the safer bet.
How much does a small sailboat for two cost? Off peak from 200 PLN per day and 1400 PLN per week. In July and August the median week for all sailboats is 3850 PLN. Data: owners' price lists on NaCzarter, 2026 season.
A yacht for 6 people: sailboat or houseboat? With a licence, the Tango 780, Antila 27 or Baltica 27. Without one, the Nautika 830 houseboat with two cabins and 6 berths. A houseboat costs more: off peak from 280 PLN per day, in peak season a median week of 9100 PLN versus 3850 PLN for sailboats.
Can four people take a yacht for 8? Yes, and often: yachts for 7 to 8 people, sailboats and houseboats together, are the largest group listed. You pay more for the dates and gain a spare cabin.
