A yacht for 8 or 10 people in Masuria: how many berths, how many cabins and what it costs per head

"A yacht for 10 people" hides three different numbers: people, berths and lockable cabins. We break them down using listings on NaCzarter (2026 season) and work out the cost per head per night on a sailboat, a houseboat and a motor yacht.

Which yacht for 8 or 10 people in Masuria?

In Masuria, a yacht for 10 people is usually a sailboat of about 9.5–10 m with three lockable cabins, while some of the berths are made up in the saloon. For 8 people the choice is wider: a sailboat of about 8 m (one to three cabins) or a houseboat of about 10.5 m with three cabins. The number of people in a listing does not always equal the number of berths.

All the figures below come from listings that owners publish on NaCzarter for the 2026 season. We counted berths, cabins, lengths and weekly prices from Saturday to Saturday.

What does "a yacht for 10 people" actually mean?

That phrase covers three different numbers. The number of people tells you how many guests the owner allows on board while sailing. Berths are places to sleep. Cabins are rooms with a door you can close. A typical sailboat for ten lists 10 people, 10 berths and 3 cabins.

The gap between berths and cabins comes from the saloon. In the evening you lower or fold the table, and the tabletop and benches turn into a bed. In the morning it has to be packed away before anyone can start on breakfast.

Houseboats and motor yachts can be different again: more people may be allowed on board during the day than there are places to sleep. NaCzarter has 9 houseboats from 3 owners that take 6 people but sleep 4. For a week-long trip, count the berths, not the "up to X people" in the title.

What do you get on a sailboat for 10 people?

There are 53 sailboats with 10 berths in the listings, from 12 owners. The median length is 9.6 m, which by Masurian standards is a big yacht. You will find an overview of this class on the page large sailing yachts in Masuria.

The layout is fairly consistent. In the 9–10 berth class, 56 yachts from 14 owners have three lockable cabins, and four or five cabins are rare exceptions. With three cabins for ten people, the remaining berths are outside them, mostly in the saloon. You can see the exact arrangement in the description and on the yacht's layout plan in the listing.

Most have a marine toilet: 44 of the 59 yachts in this class, from 11 owners. The rest mostly have a chemical one. With ten people on board this matters, because the queue for the toilet grows and the water tank empties faster than you would expect. We described how this works in practice in our article on the toilet and water on a charter yacht.

A sailboat this size needs someone with a sailing licence on board. If nobody in your group has one, you can hire a skipper from the owner for an extra fee.

Saturday, the harbour, ten friends with their bags on the jetty. The first half hour goes on sorting out the cabins. Whoever misses out on a cabin draws a spot in the saloon and puts on a brave face. By day three everyone knows who gets up first and makes coffee for the rest. Usually someone from the saloon, since they get woken up anyway.

Is a sailboat for 8 people enough?

There are 51 sailboats with 8 berths, from 11 owners, with a median length of 7.8 m. That is almost two metres shorter than the yachts for ten, so the saloon is smaller and there is less storage.

They have one to three cabins, depending on the model and the owner. You will find each of these layouts with several different owners, so there is no single standard for an "eight". Berths without a door are in the saloon or in the open part of the yacht. A marine toilet is rare in this class; a chemical one is more common. The toilet type is in the description of every listing, so check it before you pay.

The main advantage is price: eight-berth sailboats are clearly cheaper than ten-berth ones. Still, eight adults on just under 8 metres sleep shoulder to shoulder. Four couples, or a group that mostly sails and spends the evenings in harbour, will manage. Families with teenagers can find it too cramped. Houseboat for 8 or 10 people: how many beds really?

There are 56 houseboats with 8 berths, from 12 owners. The median length is 10.45 m, more than a sailboat for ten. In the 7–8 berth class, 56 of 62 boats (from 13 owners) have three cabins, and almost all have a marine toilet. For eight people it is a comfortable layout: three lockable cabins and a separate saloon for shared meals.

A houseboat with ten berths is a rarity. If you see "10 people" in the title, check the number of berths, because it may sleep fewer. Smaller houseboats, with 5–6 berths, most often have two cabins.

A houseboat has no sails, so you travel under engine, and the high sides catch crosswinds when you manoeuvre in harbour. You can read more about who it suits on the page family houseboats in Masuria. Whether you need a licence depends on the boat, so read the listing description.

How much does a yacht for 10 people cost per person?

A sailboat with 9–10 berths costs around PLN 6,230 per week in July, which works out at about PLN 89 per person per night when every berth is taken. A houseboat with 7–8 berths costs around PLN 9,100 per week in July, or about PLN 169 per person per night. These are medians of list prices for the 2026 season, for a week from Saturday to Saturday.

We calculated the cost per person separately for each listing (weekly price divided by the number of berths and 7 nights) and only then took the median. That is why the per-head figure does not always match a simple division of the numbers in the table.

Type and sizeMedian lengthCabins (most common)Week in July (median)PLN/person/night with full berths
Sailboat 9–10 berths9.6 m (10 berths)3PLN 6,230approx. PLN 89
Sailboat 7–8 berths7.8 m1–3approx. PLN 3,500*not calculated*
Houseboat 7–8 berths10.45 m (8 berths)3PLN 9,100approx. PLN 169
Houseboat 5–6 berths8.65 m (6 berths)2PLN 7,000approx. PLN 167
Motor yacht 5–8 berths8.5–9.8 m1–3PLN 7,000approx. PLN 167

The July week in the table is 18–25 July. May prices were calculated for 16–23 May, September prices for 12–19 September.

* For 7–8 berth sailboats, prices vary a lot between owners, and one of them has a large share of the yachts in this class. That is why we give the median of the owners' medians, without a per-person figure.

The season makes a big difference. A 9–10 berth sailboat costs around PLN 4,550 per week in May (about PLN 65 per person per night) and around PLN 4,900 in September (about PLN 70). A 7–8 berth houseboat costs around PLN 6,650 in May (about PLN 119) and around PLN 7,000 in September (about PLN 125). For 7–8 berth sailboats, the median of the owners' medians is around PLN 2,500 in May and around PLN 2,100 in September.

Full berths give the lowest price per head, but also the least privacy. The comfortable option is two people per cabin and nobody sleeping in the saloon. A 10-berth sailboat with 6 people in July then comes to about PLN 148 per person per night, and an 8-berth houseboat with 6 people to about PLN 217.

None of these amounts include mandatory fees (such as cleaning) or the security deposit. These are settled on site, and the deposit is refundable.

One big yacht or two smaller ones?

Two smaller yachts make sense when two families are sailing, each with its own daily rhythm, or when the group has two licence holders who both want to helm. They also help when someone snores so loudly that no closed cabin door will save the others. However, every yacht that requires a licence needs its own qualified person or a skipper hired for an extra fee.

One big yacht wins on shared cooking, a single skipper and a lower cost per head.

If you go for several yachts, NaCzarter has a flotilla search. It looks for 2 to 5 yachts starting from the same town on the same dates. With 3–4 yachts it shows a 5% discount, with 5 yachts 10%.

How to survive a week with every berth taken?

Ten people on just under 10 metres is tight, and there is no point pretending otherwise. In the morning a queue forms for the toilet. The water tank runs out faster, so top it up at every harbour stop. Bring luggage only in soft bags, because suitcases have nowhere to go. We listed what to take and what to leave at home in our charter packing list.

That leaves the saloon berth. It is the bed for whoever goes to sleep last and gets up first. Agree before the trip who sleeps there, or take turns every two nights.

Frequently asked questions

How many people really sleep on a 10-person yacht? On a sailboat with 10 berths, 10 people sleep on board, but only some of them in lockable cabins. The typical layout is three cabins plus berths in the saloon. On houseboats and motor yachts, the number of people in the listing can be higher than the number of berths, so always check the berths.

Does everyone get a cabin on a sailboat for 10 people? No. In the NaCzarter listings, almost all 9–10 berth sailboats have three lockable cabins. The rest of the group sleeps in the saloon, on berths made up from the table and benches.

How much does a yacht for 10 people cost for a week? According to NaCzarter listings (2026 season), the median Saturday to Saturday week for a 9–10 berth sailboat is around PLN 4,550 in May, PLN 6,230 in July and PLN 4,900 in September. On top of that come mandatory fees and a refundable deposit, settled on site.

Is it better to take one big yacht or two smaller ones? One big yacht is cheaper per head and simpler to organise. Two smaller ones give more privacy, but each one that requires a licence needs a qualified person or a skipper hired for an extra fee. For 3–5 yachts from the same town, the NaCzarter flotilla search shows a 5–10% discount.

Does a houseboat for 10 people have 10 beds? Rarely. In the NaCzarter listings, houseboats with 10 berths are one-offs. Most often you will find houseboats with 8 berths in three cabins, and "10 people" may mean how many guests are allowed on board during the day, not how many can stay overnight.
