Start with your crew and your plans

Decide how many people will sleep aboard, who will skipper the yacht and how much privacy you want below deck. Then compare models and dates. The passenger capacity in an offer does not mean everyone gets a berth in a separate cabin.

Sailing yacht or houseboat?

If sailing is the main aim, look for a sailing yacht suited to the skipper’s experience. If you want to travel under engine power with a kitchen and accommodation aboard, compare houseboats. In either case, look at the actual interior layout, boarding access and equipment.

A family of two adults and two children may need a different arrangement from six adults on the same model. Check enclosed cabins, berth layout and convertible saloon beds. Explore family houseboats and sailing yachts from Giżycko.

Confirm qualifications before booking

Requirements depend on the type and specifications of the boat. A houseboat is not automatically licence-free. Check the specific offer, contract terms and handover training. Our guide to houseboats without a licence explains the details.

If you want to hire a skipper, confirm their availability and price before choosing dates. Do not assume the boat and skipper share the same calendar.

Budget for the whole trip

Compare quotes for identical dates. Separate the charter from mandatory local charges, chosen services and route costs. A refundable deposit is a separate sum to have available; an advance payment is part of the price, not an extra cost.

Our yacht charter cost guide breaks down the items. Check prices and availability in the current offer, not an old screenshot.

Prepare for handover

Confirm the port, handover time, required documents and how charges and the deposit are paid. Check access and parking. Allow time for the handover report, equipment briefing and required training.

Report any damage or missing items during handover and record their condition with the person handing over the boat. Ask for a demonstration of the systems, engine and safety equipment. Agree a contact number for the trip.

Use our charter packing list. If you are refreshing the basics, read the sailing knots guide; reading it does not replace practice or training aboard.

Keep the first day flexible

Start with a short leg and leave spare time for manoeuvring. Match the route to your starting port, the weather, your crew and current navigation restrictions. You do not have to reach Mikołajki on the first evening just because it is on your list.

NaCzarter helps you compare offers and choose a yacht for those plans. Check yachts for your dates or contact us if you need help choosing.
