Antila 33 — Guide to the Queen of Masurian Charters

There is one yacht you will recognise at a glance in every Masurian harbour: a tall, sleek silhouette, a big cockpit and a crew that looks as if they were cruising in an apartment. Over the past decade the Antila 33 has grown into the benchmark — when someone asks about a comfortable, large yacht for Masuria, this is the name that comes up most often. In this guide we have gathered the manufacturer's technical data, the model's history and an honest answer to the question of who this boat is really for.

Antila 33 in a nutshell — technical specifications

Manufacturer's data (Antila Yachts, version 33.3): length overall 10.79 m with a hull length of 9.60 m, beam 3.24 m. Draught with the centreboard raised is a mere 0.45 m, with it lowered — 1.80 m; the ballast weighs 1,500 kg and the swing centreboard itself 120 kg. The basic sail plan (jib and mainsail) measures 51.2 sq m — on the original Antila 33 it was 49 sq m — and on top of that the yard offers a 65 sq m gennaker or a 51 sq m code zero. Below deck there are 6 berths in the cabins plus 4 extra berths in the saloon, the maximum crew is 10 people, and cabin headroom reaches 1.95 m. Propulsion is an inboard diesel — the exact engine depends on the individual boat (the manufacturer allows up to 21.3 kW, roughly 29 hp).

The shipyard from Radom that conquered Masuria

Antila Yachts is a family-run shipyard from Radom, building sailing yachts since 2004 under the leadership of Cezary Duchnik. It all started with the Antila 26, which within a few years became one of the pillars of the Masurian charter fleets. The Antila 33 — designed, like all Antilas above 25 feet, by Michał Orych — made its debut in spring 2015 at the Wiatr i Woda boat show in Warsaw, and by that summer the first hulls were already sailing the Masurian lakes. The magazine "Żagle" titled its December 2015 test "The New Star of Masuria" — and it is hard to imagine a more accurate prediction.

Antila 33 or 33.3 — what's the difference?

A few years after the 33's debut, the shipyard unveiled the refreshed 33.3 version. The changes are practical, not cosmetic: an enlarged bathing platform, a redesigned bathroom with a separate shower stall and a repositioned forestay, which makes the jib bigger. The silhouette and interior layout remained practically the same, so if you have sailed one version, you will feel right at home on the other. You will find both in our fleet: Antila 33 charter and Antila 33.3 charter.

Interior: three cabins and a saloon like an apartment

Below deck the Antila 33 plays in a different league from the typical Masurian 26-footers. Three enclosed cabins — a bow cabin with a 213 × 180 cm berth and two aft cabins — give every couple genuine privacy. Even a tall crew member can stand freely in the saloon (1.95 m of headroom), and the fold-out table measuring 192 × 100 cm seats the whole crew for a single dinner. Add to that a galley with a stove and fridge, a bathroom with a toilet (in the 33.3 version with a separate shower), Webasto heating for chilly evenings and a second large table in the cockpit. This boat is simply easy to like.

How does a 10-metre centreboard yacht sail?

Surprisingly lightly. The swing centreboard is the Masurian key to freedom: raised, it reduces the draught to 0.45 m, so the Antila 33 gets into shallow harbours and reed-lined bays where keel yachts have to turn back. A test by the magazine nowezagle.pl praised her exceptionally precise steering and stability — in gusts of 3–4 on the Beaufort scale the yacht did not even need her sails eased. Manoeuvring equipment (steering wheels, bow thruster) varies from boat to boat — check the description of the specific unit before booking. Frequently asked questions

How many people can the Antila 33 take? A maximum of 10 people (6 berths in three cabins plus 4 extra berths in the saloon). She sails most comfortably with 6–8 people; a full complement of 10 works best for family crews with children.

What is the difference between the Antila 33 and 33.3? The 33.3 version has a larger bathing platform, a bathroom with a separate shower and a bigger jib — the sail area grew from 49 to 51.2 sq m. The interior layout and the yacht's character remained unchanged.

Do I need a licence to charter the Antila 33? Yes — the hull measures 9.60 m, which is above the statutory 7.5 m limit, so a sailing licence (yacht skipper certificate) is required. If you do not have one, you can add an optional skippered-cruise service.

Can the Antila 33 enter the shallow Masurian bays? Yes. Thanks to the swing centreboard, the draught with the board raised is only 0.45 m, so the yacht goes where keel boats have to turn back.
