Where should you start when choosing parking?
Start with parking at the harbour where you will actually collect the yacht. Confirm a space for the whole trip, how payment works and whether you can leave after handing the boat back. Then compare parking outside the marina. For several cars, make arrangements for the whole crew: booking a yacht does not automatically reserve parking spaces.
You may not need your car again until the trip is over, but decide where to leave it before you set off. The most useful answer from staff is specific: where to drive in, unload, park and collect the car. “There is parking” does not settle any of those details.
The company's address may not be the yacht collection address
Enter the harbour stated in your booking confirmation into your navigation app. The address on an invoice or in a website footer may lead to the company's registered premises. Ask for the correct entrance as well: a map pin in the middle of a marina is little help to a driver looking for the gate.
Operators' public information shows this distinction. Piraci list their harbour at Piękna Góra 4C and confirm on-site parking, while separately giving business addresses in Wilkasy and Giżycko. Source: Piraci contact details and harbour address.
Send the crew one set of instructions: the harbour address, entrance location and telephone number for the person handing over the yacht. If cars are coming from different cities, each driver should have a copy. An organiser collecting the boat should not also have to guide arriving cars by phone.
Reading our guide to Giżycko's harbours helps you fit the departure base into your travel plans. Being near the town and being near your particular pontoon offer different advantages.
Marina parking: what to confirm before reserving a space
Ask who runs the car park and takes payment. Grupa Czarter's terms specify parking at the harbour that is settled with the harbour manager. This illustrates why you should not assume the charter team also handles parking. Source: Grupa Czarter's terms.
Check how the length of your stay is charged. Nowy Sztynort lists separate parking options, including a weekly charge linked to a charter. Before travelling, confirm whether that option covers your booking and exact dates. Source: Nowy Sztynort harbour tariff.
| What to establish | What to ask staff | What to share with the crew |
|---|---|---|
| Parking period | Does the charge cover our arrival and departure times? | Dates and how the last day is charged |
| Number of cars | Must spaces be requested or booked in advance? | Confirmation for each vehicle |
| Unloading | Where may we stop while carrying luggage? | Meeting point and final parking location |
| Access during the trip | Can we leave and return using the same parking entitlement? | Rules for the ticket, code or card |
| Collecting the car | How do we leave when the payment office is closed? | Payment method and staff contact details |
Keep confirmation of these arrangements with your travel documents. If asking about cameras or supervision, request a clear description of the service. A camera, fence or barrier alone does not answer every question about the conditions for leaving a vehicle.
One car or several: consider the whole journey
Before assigning people to cars, count passengers, luggage and child seats. Fewer cars may mean fewer paid spaces, but do not squeeze everyone in at the expense of comfort or properly securing luggage. Everyone will still need a seat on the journey home.
Establish whether everyone finishes the sailing trip together. A shared car needs extra planning if someone joins late or leaves early. Record who will carry the keys and who will drive each car home. That is a small decision until everyone's bags end up in different boots.
For a group chartering several yachts, appoint one person to collect parking information. They can report the number of vehicles, while each driver keeps their own ticket and payment receipt. One crew's early departure will then not hold up the others.
Compare off-site parking together with transfers
If considering parking farther from the marina, check the route to the actual pontoon. The distance on a map does not explain how to move bags, groceries and children's belongings. Ask whether any available transfer carries the whole crew or only the driver, and how collection after the trip is arranged.
Compare the total parking and transfer cost. Think through the return journey too: who books transport, where the crew waits and what happens if the yacht handover takes longer. A cheaper space becomes less convenient if everyone has to move luggage in several loads.
Do not choose a random street simply because several cars are parked there when you arrive. Check signs, parking conditions and whether you can leave the vehicle throughout your intended stay. Seeing an available space does not confirm the rules for the duration of the trip.
Plan unloading and the return to your car
Before arrival, separate what you need for the handover from your sailing luggage. Keep documents, your phone and confirmations handy. Our charter packing checklist helps you decide what goes aboard and what can stay in the car.
On arrival, first confirm where you may drive. Move luggage without blocking the walkway, then leave the car in the designated space. Protect the keys from water and keep them in an agreed place aboard. Save the car's location on your phone; a photo of the parking section number makes it easier to find later.
Before the final day, check where the keys and parking ticket are. Do not return an access card before establishing how you will drive out. If different people handle the yacht return and car park, complete both arrangements before your planned departure for home.
Frequently asked questions
Does a yacht booking include parking? Check the particular offer's terms and confirm a space with staff. Being able to park at a marina does not mean parking is included in the charter price.
Should several cars be registered in advance? It is worth providing the number of vehicles and parking dates. Ask whether spaces or registration numbers must be submitted in advance. Confirmation for one car does not establish availability for the rest.
Can I take my car out during the sailing trip? Check the rules for leaving and re-entering. Also establish whether returning requires a new ticket or contact with staff.
What should I check if arriving late in the evening? Confirm access to the car park, how the gate opens and where to unload. Arranging a late yacht collection does not necessarily mean the parking office will be open.
Choose the harbour along with the yacht. Browse yachts available for your dates, then finalise the collection address and parking for the whole crew before travelling.
